Parliament of Uganda to be disinfected as five members staff have tested positive for Covid-19.
According to a letter from Helen Kawesa, the Assistant Director of Communication and Public Affairs, all the positive cases were informed and they are all undergoing treatment.
“Following random testing for Covid-19 in Parliament last week, it has been established that five (5) members of staff have tested positive for the virus,”
“They are now undergoing treatment in the recommended health facilities,” Kawesa said in part.
Kawesa added that with effective from tomorrow, Saturday, September 5, 2020, Parliament will now be disinfected and numbers of staff will be scaled down further with immediate effect.
She added, “All the other staff who were in contact with the affected have been identified and advised to stay home in self-quarantine. If they develop any signs and symptoms, they have been advised to contact the Parliament doctor immediately who will then liaise with the Ministry of Health to have them tested,”
The development comes at a time when the Ministry of Health had just sixty-fifty five (65) new Covid-19 cases on Friday.
Sixty of the announced cases according to the Ministry of Health, were identified from contacts and cases.
Among the contacts and alerts, 44 were from Kampala, 6 from Gulu, 3 from Buikwe, 2 from Mukono, 1 each from Busia, Luwero, Mpondwe, and Vurra.
Two health workers from Nwuya (1) and Wakiso (1) also tested positive for Covid-19.
The other three cases were confirmed from truck drivers across the different border points.
