A Young Girl With Bone Cancer Stuck At Gulu Referral Hospital, Calls For Fiancial Support

A 15 years old girl identified by the name of Acayo Flavia from Lii Sub County in Nwoya district is battling with a bone cancer that has left her right leg severely swollen.

Acayo Flavia, a P.7 pupil of Pakia Primary school in Nwoya district was brought to the emergency ward at Gulu regional referral hospital by her mother, Evelyn Akello, 34.

Flavia sat for her PLE in 2019 and passed her exams but due to lack of school fees she couldn't continue with her studies to secondary school.

Her mother told close sources yesterday that her daughter's condition started in February 2020.

"In February, my daughter said she was feeling a lot of pain in her right leg and advised her to go to a nearby health facility and get treatment," she said.

The health workers, she says recommended five injections for the pain in the leg which she competed but the pain persisted and developed into a swellening.

She says condition of her daughter deteriorated until she took her to St Mary's hospital Lacor where they were admitted.

According to Ms Akello, doctors at Lacor hospital advised her to take to the daughter to Uganda cancer institute at Mulago hospital in Kampala, but she had no money to transfer the patient to Kampala.

"Lacor hospital offered me an ambulance and only asked me to contribute 700,000 for fuel and facilitating the ambulance attendance and a nurse but have no money to that so am calling on well wishers to support me,"

However, doctors at Lacor hospital diagnosed Flavia with bone cancer that develops very rapidly. The cancer that normally affect children and adults which is known as osteosarcoma.
