In the Northern part of Uganda, the music industry and entertainment in general is seeing a period of growth seemingly due to the increased use of social media by both entertainers and their fans.
Cities across the region are beginning to see an influx of entertainment events, hang-outs, and other related activities. These activities can be attributed to the appreciation and support given by people to artists performing in their native dialect, Luo.
This has allowed local performers to reach wider audiences than before as they become more active online. This in turn has created more opportunities for entertainers from within this region.
These developments can also be seen in home grown Artist concerts taking place across the region. Last year, Ezzy Music held successful concerts, selling out shows for days. Now Pato Loverboy has announced he is set to hold his own shows across various cities.
And these growths have not only been limited musical Artists because Comedy side of entertainment is thriving as well with MC Kash Owakabi taking the Centre stage with his "Laugh with Owakabi shows" doing extremely well attracting good numbers The growth of the industry is providing greater opportunity for young artists and creatives to showcase their talents and find success.
Not only does this offer a much-needed outlet for self expression, but it is also proving to be economically beneficial for those living in the region. Not only does this help encourage artists who speak and sing in Luo dialect but it also brings about unity amongst the community that wasn't seen before.
It serves as a form of escapism from any negativity surrounding the area in past decades, allowing individuals to express themselves freely with music being at its center.
Furthermore, with performances popping up in all corners, they bring a sense of inclusion between cultures.
As Northern Uganda progresses forward towards an era filled with Luo language artistry, many communities are hopeful that these acts will remain prominent fixtures across their regions; keeping tradition alive while providing enjoyable outlets for entertainment purposes at the same time.
