The giant Uganda's telecom company MTN Uganda has rewarded the entire athletics team that travelled and participated in 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a collective sum of UGX 175,500.
During the event held at Sheraton hotel in Kampala, Gold medal winners, Joshua Cheptegei and Peruth Chemutai were given 50 million while the rest shared between other members of contingent including coaches and admistrators.
While in the rewarding ceremony, it was disclosed that Joshua Cheptegei will receive another 25million for Silver medal he won at the competition in the men 10000m race while Jacob Kiplimo gets 10million for his bronze in the same race.
MTN chief executive Wim Vanhelleputte said the rewards are not the only in appreciations of individuals but also a celebration of the coming of age of the sport MTN Uganda has supported over the year.
Uganda collected a total of four medals in the Olympics (2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 bronze) at the Tokyo Olympics all from athletics category.
