H.E President Museveni has on Wednesday awarded Ugandan Olympic medalists with brand new car each after returning back home on Tuesday.
These medalists were given their cars on Wednesday,11 August, 2021 by President Museveni at Kololo Ceremonial grounds.
While speaking at the official welcoming of the team, the president ordered for full implementation of his earlier directive for every Ugandan who wins gold, silver, bronze at the continental and international level to start getting a monthly salary Shs 5millon, Shs 3million and Shs 1million.
The president however stressed that the reasons why Uganda performed well and got medals at the Tokyo Olympics and the other sporting events in the recent past was because of the peace and Universal Primary Education (UPE) ushered in by his government. However, Chemutai told the president at the event that she dropped out of senior one because she lacked fees to continue with secondary education.
Uganda's athlete Peruth Chemutai first gold medal in Women's 3000m steeplechase open ways to other Ugandan athlete like Joshua Cheptegei who won gold medal in the men's 5000m and Jacob Kiplimo won bronze in the 10,000m at the just concluded 2020 Tokyo Olympic games in Japan.
The president also promised to build houses for the parents of the gold medalists Joshua Cheptegei and Peruth Chemutai.
