Police in Gulu are hunting for a defilement suspect who escaped from Gulu Central Police Station custody on Sunday.

The suspect identified as Eric Olanya, aged 18 is a resident of Cubu A and B Tegwana parish in Laroo Division allegedly defiled a 10 years old girl on 3rd November.

He was later arrested on 5th November and charged with aggravated defilement under Gulu CRB 1249/2020, detained at Gulu CPS where he managed to run out.

While addressing the media, Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Regional Police spokesperson, said that the police are still investigating the circumstances leading to the run out of the suspect from the police since he was the only suspect who fled from custody.

Okema, however, added that the police are hunting for the suspect to bring him to book. He also defaulted the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for delaying the process of arraigning the suspect in court by returning the file and advising to reexamine the age of the suspect.
