Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Christopher Nyeko, a laboratory technician attached to the Health Unit at Gulu University, who was brutally killed on May 22, 2026, in Laroo Forest Cell, Pece-Laroo Division, Gulu City.

The arrest follows months of investigations by police and other security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding Nyeko’s death and bring those responsible to justice.

The suspects have been identified as Alex Okwera, 30, Innocent Latim, 27, and Ronald Kinyera, 20. They were arrested on October 23, 2026, following intelligence-led operations conducted by security agencies.

According to police, the lead suspect allegedly made an incriminating statement implicating himself, his two co-accused and two other individuals who are still at large in connection with the murder.

On October 28, 2026, the lead suspect reportedly led investigators to the alleged crime scene in Laroo Forest Cell, where police conducted a reconstruction exercise as part of the ongoing investigations.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Ojok James Onono, Head of the Communication Unit at Gulu University, welcomed the arrests, describing them as a significant breakthrough in a case that had remained unresolved for months.

Onono said the university had been seeking answers following the brutal killing of Nyeko, who served in its Health Unit, and expressed appreciation to the police and other security agencies for their efforts in bringing the suspects to book.

"For a long time, we had nobody arrested in connection with this murder, and today the police are giving us some accountability. At least now we have three suspects in custody, and the lead suspect has been brought to the scene for reconstruction," Onono said.

He added that the university was grateful to the security agencies for pursuing the case, noting that the arrest of the suspects had renewed hope for justice for the deceased and his family.

Onono further recalled remarks by the university's Vice Chancellor, emphasizing that the institution would continue seeking justice for its staff and would not relent until those responsible were held accountable.

Police say investigations are still ongoing, with the case file expected to be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice and sanctioning.

Security agencies have also pledged to intensify efforts to apprehend the two remaining suspects believed to have been implicated in the murder.

Police have, however, emphasized that all three arrested individuals remain suspects and are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.
