Justice Minister Norbert Mao and petitioner Tony Kitara have agreed to withdraw the Pece–Laroo parliamentary election petition after mediation.
The dispute over the January 2026 election will be formally withdrawn when the High Court in Gulu sits on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Lawyers for both sides are finalising the court papers.
Mao, who won the seat on the Democratic Party ticket, said the settlement followed consultations and mediation. Kitara, who contested on the NRM ticket, said both parties had agreed that the case should not proceed.
Kitara had challenged Mao’s victory, citing alleged electoral irregularities, including unlawful campaigning and voter inducement. Mao has maintained that the results reflected the voters’ will.
The withdrawal will end the legal dispute without a full trial.
