A 7-year-old girl died on Sunday morning after being knocked by a bus along the Gulu-Kampala Highway in Omoro District.
The fatal accident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on July 19, 2026, at Aremu Godown in Aremu Sub-county.
According to police, the bus, registration number UA 920EA belonging to Gulu Coaches, was driven by Jerry Ronald, 32, of Tegwana Village, Layibi Centre A and B Parish, Laroo-Pece Division, Gulu City.
The driver was heading from Gulu towards Kampala when the victim, identified as Lamara Angel of Idobo B Village, Aremu Sub-county, allegedly ran across the road from right to left.
She was knocked and critically injured. The child died while being rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.
Traffic officers from Oyam who were manning the checkpoint at Kamdini were alerted by phone. The bus, which had left the scene, was intercepted and driven back to Bobi Police Station where it is currently parked pending further management.
The scene was visited by ASP Abriar Daniel, OC Traffic Omoro, assisted by No. 33592 Sgt. Oryema. The body of the deceased was taken to Lacor Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem. The driver of the bus is on Police Form 94. Inquiries are ongoing. Case reference: TAR 58/2026.
