A retired Uganda People's Defence Forces soldier was shot dead in Lamwo District after confronting armed motorcycle robbers.

The deceased has been identified as Solomon Ocen, a resident of Padolo Village in Labigiryang Parish, Palabek Kal Sub-county.

According to Lamwo Resident District Commissioner William Komakech, the incident happened at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.

The suspects allegedly stole a motorcycle, registration number UEB 990P, from Brian Toodwong, 20, near Lugwar Primary School in Palabek Ogili Sub-county. They reportedly shot and assaulted the rider before fleeing towards Palabek Gem Sub-county.

Residents, led by Mr. Ocen, mobilized to intercept the robbers. The suspects opened fire, killing the retired soldier instantly.

Security sources say two suspects were arrested on Monday, July 20, during an operation in Padolo Village. One was found in possession of an official LC1 chairperson's stamp.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and the identities of the suspects have been withheld to avoid interfering with the inquiry.
