The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has officially endorsed Denis Adim Enap for president of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

PLU, the civic movement chaired by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced its support during a press briefing on Monday.

The endorsement comes at a time when the UPC is engulfed in a prolonged leadership dispute. The party remains divided between factions loyal to incumbent president Jimmy Akena and other contenders.

The wrangles have led to court battles and competing claims over who legitimately leads the party.

The development follows a series of court rulings and Electoral Commission decisions that questioned the legitimacy of Akena’s leadership. As a result, Akena and other contenders were barred from running for president in 2026 under the UPC ticket.

PLU officials said their backing of Adim Enap is aimed at supporting “credible leadership” in one of Uganda’s oldest opposition parties. The move is expected to further complicate the contest for control of the UPC as the 2026 elections approach.
