Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago will spend more time in custody after the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded him further on Tuesday.
He’s now set to return to court on June 30, 2026, for mention of his case. That date carries extra weight — it’s the same day his client, Dr Kizza Besigye, is also expected to appear. Lukwago is leading Besigye’s legal team.
The court had been expected to rule on Lukwago’s bail application today. But the magistrate deferred it. Reason: the conditions in and around the courtroom, plus the “numerous issues” raised by both the prosecution and defense that still need review.
Instead of a courtroom decision, the bail ruling will be sent within 24 hours via email. That means Lukwago’s lawyers and supporters will be waiting for an inbox notification, not a gavel.
Lukwago who appeared hopeless and miserable is facing charges of misprision of treason in ongoing proceedings.
The development sets up June 30 as a tense day in Makindye — with both the lead counsel and his high-profile client appearing before the same court.
