Gulu City has formed a steady task force to respond to Ebola and protect residents, citing the need for discipline, organization, and strict adherence to standard operating procedures.

His Worship Acire Julius Labeja, the Gulu City Mayor, said through his social media platforms that the decision draws from the experience and expertise of collective response teams that have handled outbreaks in the past.

The task force assembles a multi-disciplinary team drawn from Gulu City health teams, Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH), Police, Prisons, UPDF, and the Resident City Commissioner’s office, among others.

According to him, the task force will comprise key sectors such as resource and social mobilization, surveillance, enforcement, risk communication and community engagement, infection prevention and control (IPC), case management, and the burial committee.

“The message is clear. Our tasks are cut out. Ebola isn’t a joking subject,” the statement reads.

Officials said formal communications backed by guidelines from the Ministry of Health (MoH) will be issued soon.

He noted that Gulu City is ready to serve residents and equally ready to make decisions that protect people’s health and safety.
