Women in Airfield Cell, Bardege-Layibi Division, Gulu City say they are being attacked and raped on their way to fetch water.
Residents have raised concerns during community meetings about the risks they face along the route to Mama Cave, a common water source.
The attacks are reportedly happening on a farm belonging to the Diocese of Northern Uganda, which lies between Airfield Cell and Mama Cave.
Community members say the area is used by attackers to hide and target women walking alone. Some victims have not come forward due to fear of stigma.
Evidence of the attacks has been found along the road, including abandoned clothing. Residents also report finding stolen household items and a motorcycle hidden on the same farm in recent weeks.
Local leaders are now urging women to use water points closer to their homes and to avoid the isolated stretch, citing safety risks.
Under Uganda’s Penal Code Act and the Sexual Offences Act, a person convicted of simple rape faces up to life imprisonment. Aggravated rape carries a maximum penalty of death.
