A heated exchange between Hon Norbert Mao and Speaker Anita Annet Among has dominated headlines at the NRM retreat in Kyankwanzi.
The NRM's week-long retreat in Kyankwanzi began on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and will run until April 15, but tensions are already flaring between the two political giants eyeing speakership position in the 12th Parliament.
The row centered on Among's remarks comparing cooperation with other parties to setting boundaries in a home.
She said, "We do cooperate with other political parties but the cooperation doesn’t mean that you come up to my bedroom; you remain in the compound," sparking sharp criticism from Mao.
Mao slammed Among's comments on X, saying, "This is not just bad politics. It is bad manners! Only the head of the family has the final word on who can access which room in the home.
He doesn’t need lectures from a recently adopted child! Above all, when you insult your father’s visitors you’ve insulted your father."
The spat highlights growing tensions in Uganda's power-sharing ahead of the 12th parliament, where NRM holds the majority.
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affair and Democratic Party (DP) President was invited H.E President Yoweri Museveni to attend the NRM's leaders retreat.
