Hon Tony Kitara has petitioned Hon Norbert Mao's election, citing concerns over the legitimacy of the process of the polls. Kitara, who finished third in the polls, insists he's driven by a desire to clarify electoral laws, not personal vendetta.

"The court must pronounce itself on these issues," Kitara said. "If such actions are lawful, future candidates will follow suit. If not, the court should nullify the election."

Kitara emphasizes his right to challenge the results, stating, "I have nothing personal. It is purely legal." He adds, "I'm not going to court because I'm dying to go to Parliament, but to put certain issues on record"

Kitara, who contested on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, last week filed a petition at the High Court in Gulu City through his lawyer Caleb Alaka, seeking to nullify the outcome of the January 15 parliamentary election, citing alleged irregularities.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon Norbert Mao, reacted strongly to Hon Kitara's petition challenging his victory, saying, "I don't fight dogs; I fight their owners. Full stop."
