Laroo-Pece Division MP-elect and Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon Norbert Mao, has criticized NRM's candidate, Hon Tony Kitara, for filing a petition challenging his victory.

Mao stated that he doesn't "fight dogs" but rather their owners. "I don’t fight dogs. I fight their owners. Full stop," he tweeted on Wednesday.

The High Court of Uganda in Gulu has given Mao 10 days to respond to the case filed by Kitara on April 1, 2026. If Mao fails to file his response on time, Kitara may proceed with the petition, which could be determined in Mao's absence.

Mao, who contested under the Democratic Party ticket, won the Laroo-Pece Division MP race with 7,359 votes, beating Fr Onen Charles (5,562 votes) and NRM's Tony Kitara (2,867 votes). The electoral commission's Returning Officer, Mike Jjuko, announced Mao's victory.

In Kitgum, Hon Beatrice Atim Anywar on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 filed petition at Kitgum High Court challenging the victory of FDC's Onekalit Denis Amere.
