A 52-year-old businesswoman, Nambooze Claire, took her own life by hanging herself at her home in Tegwana Cell, Laroo Pece Division, Gulu City, on March 1, 2026.

According to reports, Claire had been struggling with multiple loans from microfinance institutions, totaling six million shillings, and was under pressure to pay them back.

Claire's husband, Oola Christopher, reported that she had left for her business premises in the morning but failed to return.

It was later discovered that she had hanged herself. Neighbors and relatives stated that Claire was overwhelmed by the debt and might have taken her life due to the pressure.

Police responded to the incident, and an investigation is ongoing. Claire's body has been taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem.

The community is still reeling from the news, and many are calling for support for those struggling with financial difficulties.
