After several months of closure, the Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that Karuma along the Kampala - Gulu Highway will be reopened to all traffic on the morning of Monday, April 14, 2025.
Not only the Karuma bridge will be opened, but also the Ayago Bridge, which is also located along the Kampala - Gulu Highway.
In a statement made by Mr Allan Ssempebwa from the Ministry of Works communications department, the closure was due to the installation of expansion joints which was critical to maintain the structural integrity and increase the lifespan of the bridges.
The reopening of the two bridges comes just days before the Easter holidays arrive, making travels easier, faster and cheaper.
