Through Face of Gulu City 2024 grand finale theme; “Promoting Community-Based Tourism,” we aim to showcase to the world on how to rise from the ashes of conflict to become a leading tourism destination in Uganda with one of the most beautiful and cleanest cities in Uganda that hosted the first inaugural regional parliamentary sitting in Uganda.
Northern Uganda was a warzone due to the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency that lasted for over 20 years in the region. Today, Gulu City is an example of how people affected by conflict have picked up the pieces and rebuilt their lives. We would not have achieved this infrastructural development in Gulu City if it were not for peace.
"We trust that community-based tourism development and promotion will bring more opportunities to the people and particularly the youth of this region. Our theme will focus on four key areas namely: the contribution of tourism development to peace, local community involvement and peace sensitive tourism, public/private partnerships, and marketing in post-conflict destinations like Gulu City and Northern Uganda.'' he said
The event is scheduled for 20th December 2024 at Bomah Hotel in Gulu City.
