Police in Nabilatuk district in Northern Uganda have arrested and detained a 25-year-old man for sodomizing a 9-year-old boy.
The suspect has been identified as Asio Maracello, a casual worker, and resident of Lokapel Junction village, Lorengedwat sub-county was arrested on Wednesday.
The victim is a pupil of Lokapel Rise and Shine Community School. It is alleged that on the night of October 9, 2024, Asio sodomised the minor while he was sleeping. The minor allegedly tried to make an alarm but the accused threatened to cut his neck.
Michael Longole, Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that a case of aggravated homosexuality was registered and the suspect is in police custody.
Longole said that statements of the relatives about the matter were recorded, and the victim was examined as more inquiries are still ongoing.
In March 2023, the Ugandan parliament passed a new bill that criminalizes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and anti-homosexual and imposes life sentences for consensual same-sex conduct among adults.
