The arguably biggest comedy export Mc Kash Owakabi revealed ''I want to be remembered like John Akii Bua," the Ugandan hurdler and first Olympic Champion to win the first gold medal for Uganda and Africa at large in 1972.
The great Ugandan athlete whose death was announced on 20 June 1997 at Mulago Hospital in Kampala from abdominal complications was born on 3rd December 1949 in Abako sub-county village in Moroto County in Lango District in Uganda.
While speaking on the resumption of his annual comedy show, he cited that nobody has ever come close to what the late John Akii Bua did in the past years and he wants to be the first person to reach his climax before his demise.
He emphasized that he wants to build a comedy industry in Northern Uganda which is so big and will see the entire Uganda coming to Northern Uganda for comedy shows.
He went ahead and stressed that he has started building and creating relationships with the international comedians he has been meeting from the countries he has been going for his performance.
Comedy has however taken him to places like Rwanda, South Sudan and before the year closes, he has more performances in Kenya, and Nigeria.
The Laugh With Owakabi Comedy Show which has been on hold is set to resume back tomorrow Friday at a new venue Elephante Commons in Gulu City.
"I always say, I'm a young legend. I believe I have done a lot of things but it is not yet exactly what I want to do for the industry in Northern Uganda. I wanna be remembered like John Akii Bua. You people did things back in the days but what they did was so big that nobody has ever come close to them, so basically what I want to do. I wanna build a comedy industry in Northern Uganda that is so big that the entire Uganda comes to Northern Uganda when it comes to comedy. When someone has to travel from the UK, USA, Nigeria, South Africa to come and perform comedy they have to come perform in Northern Uganda either Gulu, Lira or Adjumani or Arua like that. That's my target."
