The Police in Gulu City are holding in their custody a 20-year-old man identified as Okane Dickson a resident of Bar cell in Pece-acoyo in Laroo-Pece division Gulu city for allegedly killing of his mother Adoch Betty aged 48yrs, a widow, a resident of the same area.
The murder case is open and being investigated under CRB 361/2023.
The police have established that on Sunday yesterday 29 October 2023 at around 11:30 pm in the evening, Okane Dickson returned home from a Bar while drunk and hungry. He asked his mother, now deceased, to serve him food but the mother replied to him to be patient.
Okane therefore insisted and picked a plate to serve himself food but the mother still stopped him prompting him to pick an axe and hit the mother on the head thrice.
Adoch was rushed to Gulu regional referral hospital while unconscious but later succumbed to the injuries.
David Ongom Mudong the police spokesperson for Aswa west police Region confirmed that incident saying The Police visited the scene, recovered the killer axe, suspect arrested and detained, statements recorded from relevant witnesses, body still at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital pending postmortem as more inquiries continue.
The police in their statement condemn the current rise in homicide cases arising from alcohol and drug abuses.
They have therefore assured the public that they are coming up with the deterrence measures, and pledged that the strict enforcement mechanisms are going to be emphasized to curtail the vice by ensuring that these cases are fully investigated and followed to the logical conclusions for the culpable suspects to face the long arm of the law.
