Police in Pajule, Pader district, are holding Genesis Ocero Nangai, 27, a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier over allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.
Private Nangai, attached to the 8th Mountain Battalion in Butama, Bundibugyo district, was arrested over the alleged aggravated defilement of a minor.
Aswa River region Police spokesperson, David Ongom Mudong, said the victim’s mother, Joyce Lamwaka, reported the case to the Police.
He said a preliminary report indicates that, on July 17, at about 10:00 pm, while at Kal-kwaro cell, Latuturu parish, Pajule Town Council, as the victim was returning to their home from visiting a friend, she met Ocero Nangai who managed to lure the victim into his house where he allegedly defiled her.
Ongom says the victim reported the incident to her mother in the morning.
He added that the Police took action by examining the scene and later arrested the suspect.
Ongom said the victim was taken for examination on Police form 3A and statements from relevant witnesses were recorded. The suspect is pending charge, and caution and examination to ascertain his mental status.
He said a case of aggravated defilement was registered.
Ongom urged parents to always caution minors from roaming at night as it exposes them to many dangers.
