At least seven traders have died and 19 others left in critical condition following a nasty road accident in Alik Pot Village along Lira- Abako road in Lira District on Monday 10th January 2022 evening.
The victims, mostly mobile traders, were traveling in a Fuso Truck registration number UBJ 354G when it overturned at around 6pm.
The traders and their goods were on their way from Ajuri Market in Alebtong District heading back to Lira city.
The injured have been identified as Apio Mercy, Elanyu Brain, Ipet Sharon, Okaka Denis, Okinon Joshu, Atang Josephine, Sabit Edward, Acheng Agnes and Akello Mildred.
Others are Emma Caveris, Alobo Vicky, Ogwal Jaspher, Okora Jimmy, Awich Moses, Lugimona Gilbert, Odong Modek, Naboga Angela, Akello Joan and Obong Kizito.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson confirmed the report saying the dead have all been taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary.
According to Okema, preliminary reports indicate that the driver was over speeding and the truck overloaded.
