Kilama Wilfred wins 2024 Mr Northern Uganda Open bodybuilding crown

Kilama Wilfred, the reigning Mr Acholi sub-region, became the first Mr Northern Uganda having clinched the 2024 gong. 

In what looked to be a watering final, heavyweight Kilama who is also runner up Mr Uganda beat two other contestants to emerge the winners.

The event which was held at Bomah Hotel in Gulu City on 18th May attracted more than 23 contestants.

But the headline of the night came when Kilama out- muscled his competitors to repeat what he did in the Acholi sub-region competition last year in December 26, at the City Club Gulu.

He was followed by Rachkara Emmanuel who finished second with Mulala Peter from Bugweri region coming in third to complete the podium.

He walked away with trophy, medal and sh450,000 received as cash prize money courtesy of Iron Man supplements and bag of supplements as second placed Emmanuel and third placed Peter pocketed sh300,000, supplements and medal and sh200,000, supplements and medal respectively.

"I'm always ready, after finishing Mr Uganda and Mr Acholi sub-region, I never had time for resting. I was consistently training all the time so for this competition as it was coming I didn't waste a lot because I was well. I'm waiting for Mr Uganda and Mr East Africa which are on the door ways coming." - Kilama Wilfred aka Big Fred stated after the win.

Meanwhile in the same category of muscle display (Bantam weight), Oyugi Silvester had no competitors and in the middle category Juma Saidi also had no challengers.

In the category of body physics (light weight), Lubangakene Douglas Ezekiel never had a challenger so he won automatically and in the middle weight category, Komakech Leedoro scooped the win without a challenger still. Meanwhile in the Heavyweight category, Rubangakene Sunday beat Ojok Anthony and Omora Ronald to be crown winners of the Body Physics.

Moving to the powerlifting which had four categories; middle, Light, Heavyweight and ladies category.

In the category of middle weight, Okot Philips Obadang beat his counterpart Ocaya Erick to be crown champion while in light weight category, Canamita James thumped Umar Al Bashir to emerge winner and in the Heavyweight category, Kizito Shall from central region hammered Ojede Steven from Lango sub-region who came second and Obwona Joseph from Acholi sub-region who came in the third place to win the crown. In the ladies category, Aber Mercy couldn't hesitate to beat Shida Janet to win the victory.

While in the category of Arm wrestling which had both ladies and men categories, starting with the ladies category, Katushabe Winifred beat Aber Mercy who finished second and Areso Prossy who finished third. And in the men category, Canamita James was crowned champion after beating Okot Phipps Obadang and Umar Al-Bashir 

Hon Gilbert Olanya who was the chief guest rallied at the championship has pledge support for bodybuilding.

He called on fellow legislators to start supporting, encouraging and also contribute towards the success of the youth.
