Missing Gulu EC Staff Tabu Richardson Found Dead In Laroo Forest, Gulu City

Mr. Tabu Richardson, the missing Electoral Commission (EC) Gulu supervisor who went missing for over eight days has been found dead.

Richardson's body was found dumped in Laroo forest on Saturday 16th January 2021 when his body was wearing away.

Tabu Richardson went missing on 8th January 2021 in the evening hours when he left office in the name to purchase food for fellow workmates. 

According to his brother Jero Bable, Tabu was kidnapped by unknown persons on January 8, 2021, shortly after he left office. The EC’s office is located opposite Dave Nest hotel in Senior Quarter, Gulu City.

The deceased went missing barely three days as Ugandans prepared to go to the polls to elect a President and Members of Parliament.

A case of disappearance was registered at Gulu Central Police Station under SD number 23/09/01/2021 and On January 15, 2021, his badly rotted body was found in Forest ward, just 500 meters from his office.

Preliminary police investigation reveals that an empty bottle of Carbofuran, one of the most toxic carbamate pesticides was found lying beside him. Traces of the chemical was also reportedly found in his blood system.

Grace Davis, the Officer-In-Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department at Gulu Central Police Station told the website that the chemical also destroyed the victim’s vital organs. It is however not clear if he ingested the chemical to end his life.

Meanwhile, there is no single suspect has been arrested in connection to the death of Tabu Richardson.
