Four people have been arrested following an early-morning attack on Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in Kasese District, police have said.

The incident happened at about 2am on Thursday, October 1, 2026, when a group of about six people armed with pangas reportedly stormed the police station and attempted to disarm an officer on duty.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the officer resisted the attackers and fired at one of them, hitting him in the leg.

The injured suspect managed to escape from the scene but was later found dead a short distance away.

Police said the deceased had not yet been identified, while four suspects arrested in connection with the incident were named as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.

A panga was recovered at the scene, and the deceased's body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing, according to police.

Rusoke urged residents with information about the suspects who fled the scene to report to the nearest police station and encouraged the public to alert authorities about any suspicious activity.

Police said they remain on alert and will continue taking measures to protect police facilities from similar attacks.
