The Police in Amuru District, in collaboration with the Uganda People's Defence Force, has arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of 105 head of cattle from the farm of Hon. Dan Kidega, former speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The suspects, identified as Kuzara Ezra, 33, Talemwa George, 22, Ihanga Nathan, 27, Kakuru Fred, 33, Kairanga Stephen, and Agaba Emma, 30, were apprehended in a joint operation and are currently detained at Amuru Central Police Station.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the herdsmen employed to manage the farm allegedly orchestrated the theft, and a key suspect, Denis alias "Sebabanda", who coordinated the transportation of the stolen cattle using trucks, is still at large.
The stolen cattle were intercepted on February 13, 2026, at Ajok Village, as the suspects attempted to cross the River Nile with the animals. So far, 84 head of cattle have been recovered, and efforts are underway to recover the remaining 21.
Police investigations are ongoing, with ASP Ongom David Mudong, PRO-ASWA, stating that efforts to trace and apprehend the remaining suspect are actively ongoing.
