A violent altercation occurred in Gulu City in the early hours of Sunday morning, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.
The incident transpired at approximately 4:30am along Cemetery Road, where a group of young men, referred to as "Aguus," had gathered to purchase chapatis.
According to eyewitness accounts, a physical confrontation erupted between the chapati vendor and the Aguus over a monetary dispute.
The situation rapidly escalated when the chapati vendor stabbed one of the Aguus, who subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The group then mobilized and launched a retaliatory attack against the chapati vendors, physically assaulting them and vandalizing shops and kiosks in the surrounding area.
Law enforcement officials were promptly notified and responded swiftly to the scene, dispatching a fire brigade to extinguish a blaze and cordoning off the area.
One suspect, 19-year-old Ayella Bismark, was taken into custody to facilitate further investigations.
"We are treating this incident as a murder case, and a thorough investigation is currently underway," stated ASP Kidega, Officer-in-Charge of Gulu Central Police Station. "We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with us as we investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident."
Two victims were rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment, and law enforcement officials are working to identify the deceased individual.
The incident has left the community in a state of shock, with many calling for calm and peace to be restored in the area. Law enforcement officials are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
