Nile Special affirm Ugandan Rugby support as Uganda gears up to host Rugby Africa Cup

Uganda Rugby lead sponsor Nile Special has reaffirmed its ultimate commitment towards working with Uganda Rugby Union to see that the country hosts the prestigious tournament Rugby Africa Cup which is slated for July.

Uganda Rugby Union and its partner Nile Special on Wednesday officially launched the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup campaign to host the prestigious tournament. 

Uganda being the host of this year's Rugby Africa Cup, it's currently in the high gear of preparation to host the colorful tournament.

The ceremony was held on Wednesday 22nd May at King's Park Rugby Arena in Bweyogerere, 

Attendees included the Uganda Rugby Union Executive Committee and Secretariat, government representatives, Uganda Rugby partners, stakeholders, Uganda Rugby Cranes players and technical staff.

The 2024 Rugby Africa Cup will run from Saturday, 20th July to Sunday, 28th July 2024, at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. Teams are expected to arrive in Uganda by Thursday, 18th July, with the Captain’s Runs planned for Friday, 19th July.

Speaking at the ceremony, Uganda Rugby Union President, Godwin Kayangwe thanked Uganda Rugby partner Nile Special for changing the sports since their existence in the development of the Ugandan Rugby.

"Our partnership with Nile Special has been a game-changer for Ugandan rugby. Together, we aim to build a vibrant rugby culture that resonates with our fans and inspires our athletes. I am thrilled to see Nile Special's continued support every step of the way."

Adu Rando on Facebook live, Managing Director of Nile Breweries, stated, "Our support for Ugandan rugby is rooted in our belief in its potential to unite and inspire. The 2024 Rugby Africa Cup campaign is another opportunity to 'Raise Our Game.' We aim to bring our signature festival atmosphere to this premier competition."

Hon. Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip, stated,"As a government, we are massively proud to support the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup and the unbelievable efforts of the Uganda Rugby Union. This tournament not only showcases the sporting talent and dedication within our motherland but also highlights the unity and passion of Ugandans. We look forward to witnessing Uganda shine on the continental stage and to the positive impact this will have on our youth and future generations," 

Rugby Africa President Herbert Mensah who joined the event virtually made a remark saying, "Uganda has already demonstrated its capability as a wonderful tournament host. With your renowned hospitality, excellent facilities, and the new rugby home at Mandela National Stadium Namboole, I eagerly anticipate what you have in store for some of the continent’s finest talents this July."

The Rugby Africa Cup is a biennial men’s rugby union tournament organized by Rugby Africa with a rich history dating back to 2000. Previously known as the Africa Cup, the tournament was rebranded in November 2019.

The 2024 Rugby Africa Cup will bring together the best teams from across the continent. The participating nations this year are Burkina Faso, Namibia, Senegal, Kenya, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, and hosts, Uganda.
