Sheila Atim Gets Nominated For BAFTA Rising Star Award

Sheila Atim, a British actress of Ugandan origin has been nominated for BAFTA Rising Star award for her role in ''The Woman King.''

The British Academy Film Awards announced Tuesday (Jan.17) the nominees for this year's prestigious EE BAFTA Rising Star Awards.

Atim recently starred in the  historical epic feature film The Woman King alongside Oscar-winner Viola Davis. Last year, she made her debut in the Marvel cinematic universe, appearing as Sara in Doctor Strange & The Multiverse of Madness.

The 32-year-old has made a name for herself on the London theatre scene as an actor, singer, playwright and composer-winning an Olivier award in 2018 for her breakout performance in Girl from the North Country and another in 2022 for a revival of Constellations. She was also awarded an MBE for services to drama in 2019.

Atim faces strong competitors like Aimee Lou Wood, Daryl McCormack, Emma Mackey and Naomi Ackie in the category of EE Rising Star Award

The EE BAFTA Rising Star Award winner will be announced on the 19th of February. Now in its 18th year, the Rising Star award is the only BAFTA voted for by the British public. The voting window is now open.
