Security in Gulu city yesterday arrested two notorious goons who have for the past 6 months been engaging in pugging-off people's vehicle registration numbers.
These new wave of crime targets the private number plates where their owners are demanded to pay money if they are to recover their number plates.
The arrested were identified by security as 24 years old Onen Ruston, resident of Acoyo cell in Laroo-Pece Division and 22 years old Ismael Shudil resident of kanyagoga in Bardege-Layibi Division Gulu city.
Peter Banya, the resident city commissioner in charge of Laroo-Pece division Gulu city confirmed the arrest saying the duo were arrested on an intelligent lead operation following increasing and continuous complaints raised about a new wave of crime in the city involving plugging of vehicle registration number plates from within Gulu city.
Banya says the security were directed to the resident where one suspect Onen Raston was living where he was arrested and several number plates were recovered from his house, he thereafter directed security to Kangagoga where Ismael Shudil was also arrested with some number plates.
The suspect when interrogated revealed that they were introduced to this dubious business by one only identified as Kidega who is still at large.
According to security, theres criminals normally plugs-off the number plates from a parked motorvehicle especially from a drinking joint, roadside and later leave their telephone number directing the victim to deposit to their mobile money account some money ranging between one hundred and fifty thousand shilling to two hundreds thousands shilling upon depositing the money, the owner are directed on where to pick their registration number plates from.
Some of the registration number plates which were recovered on Sunday include UBF 207 E, UBE 915 A, UAR 042 U for both front and back side, UBH 703K both front and back side
Other number plates include SSD 875AT, UBB132 P, UBB 646 P and UAU 916 C, During the press time the duo were not yet handed over to ploce still but they were helping the secutity to trace for other prime suspect who are still at large.
