Lira Parish Chief Commits Suicide After Losing UGX 10M Sacco Funds

Lira District parish chief identified simply as Oming Patrick, 37, has reportedly committed suicide after losing Sacco funds.

The incident happened on Sunday in Abia Mawoyi village, Amokogee parish in Lira District.

It's reported that the deceased who was a treasurer in a village savings group, Neno Abor hanged himself after losing Shs.10million which was meant to be divided amongst the Sacco members on Sunday morning.

It's alleged that Oming left his home and walked to a near Alik health center which is approximately 3k from his home and hanged himself.

His body was later discovered by his wife, Jolly Alum at around 6pm hanging lifeless on one of a trees in their garden.

Lira East Division police commander, Godfrey Abigaba visited the scene with his team and the body was taken for postmortem as investigations are still under way.

Abigaba, however urged the public not to end their life by commiting suicide but rather use the leaders from the LC1 chairperson, security and family members or even friends to share and solve their problems.
