Northern Uganda’s entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following confirmation of the death of Nyeko John Bosco, popularly known as Luo Champion.
The veteran Luo movie translator passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Lacor Hospital in Gulu, where he had been admitted for treatment after a referral from Mulago National Referral Hospital. The news was confirmed by his friend, Okello David, Deputy RDC of Nwoya District, also known as Ocii DJ.
Reports of Luo Champion’s death first surfaced on social media late Wednesday night, leaving many fans and fellow artists devastated as tributes poured in online.
According to Okello David, he last met the late translator in March at Fatuma Guest House in Nwoya. The two were working on translating over five movies into Acholi, but had completed only two, which were awaiting release.
Luo Champion is remembered as the first person to introduce movie translation in the Acholi language. He was famous for translating films such as Atinga, Delta Force, Two Rats, and Ukwa, among others. He died following an undisclosed illness. May his soul rest in peace.
