Three unknown gunmen shot a security guard and robbed him of his rifle during an aggravated robbery and attempted murder at LT Energy petrol station in Laliya Trading Centre, Gulu City, on Tuesday night.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on 5 May 2026. The suspects arrived on a boda boda at Key B Cell, Kasubi Ward, and asked the fuel attendant for the price of petrol. They did not refuel, but instead parked ahead in the compound.
Two of the men dismounted. One sneaked behind the petrol station, pulled a rifle from his jacket, and shot the security guard in the head.
The attackers took the guard’s gun and handed it to a colleague. They then opened fire randomly, with a stray bullet hitting an unidentified person.
The injured guard, Obedi Ronald, a security officer with Samurai Security Organization and resident of Laroo-Pece Division, was found breathing and rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor for treatment. The unidentified victim was taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.
The incident was protected by Kerich Kennedy, 27, a Kenyan national and manager at LT Energy Ltd, filed the report.
A case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder was opened under CRB 114/2026. The scene was visited by the DPC, D/CID, Flying Squad, and SOCO, and documented. 14 cartridges and blood samples were recovered.
