At least a number of traders who were in September this year allocated Cemetery road in Pece-Laroo division Gulu city for night food vending businesses are currently counting losses due to persistent rain being experienced in Gulu city mostly in the night.
Laroo-Pece division council was in September this year gazetted Cemetery road for night food vending business to help night lovers, travelers and night visitors get food at night.
According to the traders, the businesses are booming especially over the weekend since their major target customers are people who visit night clubs such as Plan B bar and lounge, Gulu city club and Buganda pub for leisure.
However, in the previous weekend, the food vendor incurred serious losses due to persistent rain which used to start early in the evening and stop in the middle of the night hence blocking customers from turning up to purchase food stuff.
Kato Lubega, one of the chapati makers, says due to persistent rains at night, he is receiving few customers.
He reveals that over the weekend he made Chapati amounting to a total of 200,000 shillings however he sold for only 80,000 shilling.
Akanyo Gloria, who deals in frying chicken fish, and selling tea, narrated her stories that on Saturday she fried chicken worth 150,000 shilling but she sold only for 50,000 shilling. Noticing that her customers were cut off by the evening rains.
Rachael Nalule says before the current rain in Gulu city she would sell up to 200 cups of coffee but in the two days when rain has been disturbing she is selling between 40 to 60 cups.
Majority of the food vendors in Cemetery road are using the umbrella to keep them together with their food stuff from the evening rain.
Peter Banay the, resident city commission for Laroo-Pece division in Gulu city during a recent interview with a reporter says the fact that these traders are allocated the space only for nigh food vending they are not allowed to establish ant structure at the road side Adding that during the day time the space must remain clean with no structures such as stall and makeshifts.
