Traffic Police in Gulu City have decided to launch a crackdown on motorists who are not following the one-way traffic rules in the central business district. This comes in response to the recent designation by Gulu City Council of several streets as one-way routes to alleviate congestion, owing to their narrowness.
The affected streets, including Queens Avenue, Labwor, Aliker, Awere, and Olya, have been designated as one-way routes to manage traffic flow effectively. However, a significant number of motorists have been found to disregard these rules, leading to the launch of the crackdown by the Police on Tuesday. As a result, more than 40 motorcycles were impounded during this operation.
Peter Patrick Lachero, the OC Traffic of Gulu City, reported that violators are being issued express penalties of 100,000 shillings, payable at banks. He also mentioned that efforts had been made to sensitize the public about the one-way traffic routes, but many motorists have not complied.
