There was change in things from victory to life loss in Amuru District as a man life was cut short after winning the drinking competition.

Report obtained by LuoTunes.com has it, Julious Ocitti’s triumph over Christopher Oweka in an alcohol-drinking contest in Amuru has been short-lived and overshadowed by Ocitti’s subsequent death.

According to Gladys Auma, a member of the community where the competition took place, Ocitti (37) and Oweka (23) participated in the drinking competition after a stake of 10,000 shillings was offered as a prize for the winner

Auma explained that Innocent Okot, another community member from Okidi parish, organized the drinking contest, during which Ocitti consumed six bottles of a local gin called Kadeng ci deng.

After emerging as the victor, Ocitti, who resided in Lagot Oywee village in Oin kidi parish, Atiak sub-county, Amuru district, received his prize money of 10,000 shillings from Okot before his unfortunate demise.

“He attempted to return home, but he collapsed within a distance of five meters. He was subsequently rushed to Atiak Health Centre IV, where he was pronounced dead,” Auma recounted.

Christopher Oweka, who had consumed five bottles of alcohol, was awarded 5,000 shillings. However, he also visited Atiak Health Centre IV, but managed to escape from the facility on Monday morning.

Samuel Akera, the chairperson of Atiak LC3, disclosed that a faction of community members from the Puroc-Pujok clan launched an attack on Pukung Clan in retaliation for Ocitti’s death, resulting in the torching of ten huts.

“During the assault, food items and animals were looted,” added Akera.

He further mentioned that they sought assistance from the Uganda Red Cross Society to aid those affected by the destruction of their huts.

Steven Odong Latek, the Resident District Commissioner of Amuru, urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

A case of arson has been registered at Atiak Police post under SD /15/14/7/2023.
