4th Div Court Martial Sentences Two UWA Game Rangers To 10 Years In Jail For Killing Truck Driver In Apaa

UPDF 4th Division Court Martial has sentenced two Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) game rangers attached to Murchison Falls for 10years and 2years in prison for the murder of a truck driver in Apaa Trading Centre.

Opiyo Vincent, the truck driver was shot dead from Layima Junction, Apaa Trading Center in Adjumani District on November 13th 2020 during a scuffle between him and a joint team of UPDF and Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers.

The duo: Opiyo Morris Taban (31) to 10years in prison while colleague Lance Corporal Lovis Okello (38) to a fine of 2 million shillings received their sentences on Tuesday, 28 April 2021.

The prosecution led by Lt. Col. George Nambafu, the Chairman 4th Division Court Martial submitted that on November 13th 2020, Morris and Okello committed the offences.

According to Col. Nambafo, evidence given by both prosecution and witnesses who include market vendors, post mortem report and ballistic expert proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offences.

The accused pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder and malicious property damage respectively.
