Opio Alex Ongom has been elected as the new guild president of Gulu University after beating three other contestants.
Mr Ongom from the faculty of medicine becomes the institution's 24th guild president following the Saturday polls that saw him emerge victorious.
Mr Ongom garnered 1,294 votes in the voting exercise that ended on Saturday evening with him being declared winner by RT Hon Atimango Mercy Fortunate, the returning officer. His closest contender Mr Openyrwot Brian managed to pocket 898 votes.
The other contestants were Odong Steward Howard who got 387 votes and Olara Ronald David who clinched 232 votes.
