West Nile, Acholi, Lango and Karamoja (WALK) creative art foundation on Tuesday launched their first office which will act as a regional hub to connect all the creatives from across Northern Uganda in Gulu City.
WALK Creative is dedicated to empowering creative minds and providing a platform for talent across industries like visual artists, designers, literature, musicians, writers and journalists.
The event was graced by the Director of Operations Wealth Creation madam Sylvia Owori, Uganda National Cultural Centre Vice Chairperson Phina Mugerwa, former Minster of Gender Hon.Zoe Bakoko Bakoro, Ker Kwaro Acholi Prime Minister Michael Otim, among other top figures.
WALK chairperson Solomon Aboda also known as Badman Solo thanked West Nile, Acholi, Lango and Karamoja for finally accepting that there should be unity in the Northern industry.
"I want to appreciate the regions namely; West Nile, Acholi, Lango and Karamoja for accepting that unity is the way to go. It's because of this that is why we are here as Walk. The regions have accepted to walk together. Most people thought it was a joke and comedy but see where we are going to and is now here and we are going very far.'' - he stated.
Sylvia Owori, the Director of Operations Wealth Creation committed to stand and walk together with creative.
She however promised to support the creative and export their music to international level where she wants to see them at the Grammies collecting awards all over the world.
She also added that the creative foundation shall be having cooperatives which will have film makers, fashion designers, writers, deejays, promoters among others from the streets become one family.
"So we are going to try and support you and export your music to international level. We want to see you at the Grammies picking up awards all over the world'', ''And the one unique thing with the Walk creative is that we have brought all of you together under the cooperative,'' ''There will be cooperatives for film, fashion designer, craft, writer, deejays and promoters. We are calling all the creatives from the streets as one."
Michael Otim, the Ker Kwaro Acholi Prime Minister during his remarks, promised that the Chiefdom is in solidarity to support the foundation.
He however handed over a dummy cheque of 2 million Uganda shillings as a support from Ker Kwaro Acholi to WALK committee.
Former Minster of Gender, Hon Zoe Bakoko appealed to Walk Creative Arts members never to allow any obstacles to separate or disunite them. She thanked the WALK committee headed by chairperson Solomon Aboda and madam Sylvia Owori for coming up with such an initiative to bring all the creatives together.
Meanwhile Ms Phina Mugerwa, the vice chairperson of Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) donated Ugx10 million shillings into the creative arts account.
